Education Licensure, Certification and Endorsement
Resources and key details.
Intentionally Designed Licensure Programs
American College of Education (ACE) offers a wide variety of educator preparation programs approved to meet initial teacher or principal licensure/certification requirements and various educational endorsements.
Even if our licensure program doesn’t list your state as an approved pathway, it’s very likely you’ll still be able to get the state license you need by meeting the out-of-state licensing requirements of your state.
To see our licensure and endorsement-approved programs, visit our certification by educator role page. To see a full list of ACE’s program authorizations, view that list here.

Licensure Pathways and Reciprocity at ACE*
ACE’s educator preparation programs and content endorsements for teachers and principals are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and approved by the Indiana State Department of Education (DOE).
Because Indiana participates in the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement, those who earn an Indiana license may be eligible to apply for comparable licensure or endorsement in many other states as an out-of-state graduate of a CAEP-accredited and Indiana DOE-approved program.
While many states participate in interstate reciprocity agreements, they may still have additional requirements for licensed educators in another state. These additional requirements are called Jurisdiction Specific Requirements (JSRs) and usually vary depending on the educator’s years of experience, content exams, or state-specific coursework requirements. Some states, however, consider themselves “full-reciprocity” and do not have any additional requirements.
Some states require graduates of state-approved educator preparation programs to apply directly to their state for licensure. Because licensure requirements vary, we encourage prospective students to verify the specific criteria for the state where they plan to work.
*Prospective students are strongly advised to confirm the benefit(s) for which they may be eligible with their state’s department of education prior to enrolling in an American College of Education degree or certificate program.
